The MAP Long Rod Conversion can transform your Commando into a super smooth and powerful machine:

Our custom-made, Norton Long Rods are .525 inches longer than the stock Norton rod. It's hard to imagine how an extra half inch of connecting rod can dramatically effect the overall performance of a Norton - but it can!  Over the years, talented engineers discovered that creating a little better rod geometry can make a huge difference in how an engine performs. It makes you wonder why the factory didn't implement this change while the Commando was still in production. When paired with our MAP Long Rod Billet Pistons, this conversion kit can provide more RPMs, more power, less reciprocating weight and less vibration throughout the engine. How do we do it?

  • MORE POWER! This conversion creates more power by allowing more dwell time at the top of the compression stroke. This increased dwell time provides more time for the fuel charge to burn completely and also exerts maximum force on the piston throughout the power stroke. This translates to more power for the amount fuel you burn.
  • LESS VIBRATION! With more dwell time at the top and bottom of the stroke, the piston has a smoother transition and less “snap” during cycles. That's because the pistons don't have to stop and reverse direction as abruptly as they would with a shorter rod. Also, our short-skirted, billet pistons are designed specifically for use with these rods.These pistons are significantly lighter than stock pistons. The wrist pin has relocated to a higher position on the piston and the skirt shortened - reducing reciprocating weight significantly. This provides for a quicker revving engine and higher RPMs - translation: Less less vibration, more revs and more power too!
  • LESS WEAR AND TEAR ON YOUR ENGINE!  Our longer rods have a less severe angle when traveling through mid-stroke than shorter, stock rods. This equates to less side forces being applied to the cylinder wall, ultimately reducing friction, heat and wear. For years, Norton owners have experienced issues with broken crankshafts and cases - not to mention poor riding comfort. That's why reducing engine stress is very important for big twins. Our rods reduce power-robbing friction and the excess vibration it creates. With our long rods, your engine will run cooler and with less vibration.

Finite element analyses design by High Cotton MotoWorks allows for:

  • Re-shaped pin boss for added strength (helps prevent "pin flex"& small-end failure)
  • Double “forced” pin oilers to reduce friction and piston pin heat
  • Bushed small end (replaceable) eliminating the need for fragile and expensive DLC pins
  • Optimized big-end and pin boss for strength with important weight reduction compared to other steel rods

  • Rod must be used in conjunction with MAP Long-Rod Piston Set
  • Perfect "Stroker" rod for Triumph 650 using Norton (modified) crank or MAP9217/EN-76 (Custon EN40B Billet 89mm Offset Stroker Crank)
