Your source for British motorcycle parts and performance
During the 1960’s, MAP founder, Marino Perna fell in love with motorcycling. His first bike was a Suzuki X-6 Hustler. Lightweight, quick and dependable, it was nice, but it didn’t set his world on fire. Then, as a freshman in college, he threw a leg over a ’67 BSA Lightening. That was it -- he was bitten by the Brit Bug and he’s been suffering from it ever since.
Marino’s next bike was a 1970 Bonneville. Never satisfied with stock, he blueprinted the engine for better performance then customized the bike to satisfy his creative need. But there was always a desire for more: bigger, faster, better. After college, he and his fiancée, Lynda, set off on a European vacation, with a fortuitous detour to visit a motorcycle parts manufacturer in England. That company was known for building big-bore kits for Triumphs. Long story short: Lynda charmed the owners into making Marino the sole proprietor of their products in the US. That business arrangement got Marino going in the performance business, but it wouldn’t be too long before he would be building his own parts.
In 1976, the Pernas set up shop in St. Petersburg, Florida, selling performance parts and repairing British bikes. By 1980 they were awarded a coveted Triumph dealership, which was great until Triumph closed shop (the first and hopefully only time) just a few years later. But, Marino wasn’t resting on his laurels. He had already begun shifting the focus of their business from selling new bikes to developing and selling the best performance parts available.
For over 45 years, Marino has focused a passion for perfection into building the very best performance parts for Triumph, BSA and Norton. This is probably best represented the winning ways of MAP-sponsored racer Tim Joyce. Tim used off-the-shelf MAP products to propel his Triumph Bonneville to five national championships. No one else has even come close.
But MAP is more than just performance -- they’ve also built their business around supplying those hard-to-get parts every vintage enthusiast needs to keep their bikes on the road. And for this Marino and Lynda have handed the reins of their business over to their motorcycle-loving son, Garrett. Garrett grew up at MAP, loves the business and he says it’s his favorite place to be. Garrett, the owner of bunch of really cool bikes (including a beautiful ’67 Bonnie) wants MAP to be the go-to parts provider for anyone who owns a vintage Triumph, BSA or Norton. For example, he’s amassed one of the largest selections of Amal and Mikuni carburetors for British bikes in the county. He and his staff are constantly building upon the tens of thousands of parts currently in stock, by adding new items as they become available.
In coming months, you’ll probably notice changes to our website and to our inventory as well. Our goal is to provide our customers with the best possible on-line shopping experience in the industry. Dealing with bikes, many over 50 years old, we realize it’s difficult to stock everything you’ll need. But we do our best to provide the most necessary parts – not the stuff you can get anywhere – but the brand-specific parts and tools you won’t find at discount bike superstores.
MAP is a family-run business built upon a philosophy of trust, respect, value and dependability. And it’s apparent in the way we do business every day. We want your experience with MAP to reflect our business ethos. So if there is any way we can make your experience better, please let us know
