Product Question

I am rebuilding a 1972 Triumph 650 5 speed. It came to me with the improved 5 speed gear set containing mainshaft 1st/2d gear 57-4653, layshaft 3rd gear 57-4647, layshaft 2nd gear 57-4658, layshaft 1st gear 57-4655, and layshaft drive dog 57-4661. Because it came with these 5 improved parts, I suspect it also has the improved layshaft fork 57-4660, but i see no part number on that piece.

What i do not have is the improved layshaft assembly -- the parts included in item 12 of your wonderful exploded-view diagram. I am considering ordering these parts, primarily because these improvements include the circlip between 4th and 5th gear. This circlip, i am told, prevents the 5th gear from moving along the layshaft and jamming into the 4th gear. This has happened on the motor i am rebuilding.

As for the mainshaft, i have mainshaft 1st/2nd gear 57-4653, mainshaft 3rd gear 57-4378, mainshaft 4th gear 57-4376 and mainshaft high gear 57-4372, presumably with the Hoffman high gear roller bearing. I note that this high gear and its bearing are not the improved versions.

Here is my question: if i purchase the improved layshaft assembly (with improved 5th and 4th gears attached), will it be compatible with the mainshaft gear set that i have? Put another way, does the improved layshaft assembly require the improved mainshaft high gear and its high gear bearing?

Thank you in advance for your response.
